Dorasamudra

   This town was located near modern Mysore. The town of Halebid is believed to be the site of the old Dorasamudra It represented the core of the kingdom of Hoyasala, which arose dur-ing the first half of the 12th century. The Hoyasalas were then feuda-tories of the Chaulukyas. Ibn Battuta visited Dorasamudra. Ac-cording to him, the Hoyasala king of the place had 20,000 Muslims in his army. Advancing from Deogir, in 1310-1311, toward Do-rasamudra, Malik Kafur passed through Telingana country. In 1311-1312, we are, however, told that the Hindu chiefs of Do-rasamudra were forced to submit to the sultan of Delhi. After his re-bellion, Baha al-Din Garshasp escaped to Dorasamudra but was handed over by Ballala III to his pursuers in 1327.
